Excellent Fossil Flower From The Green River Formation
Stock Number  FPFLO07

Name:   Astronium truncatum
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Flower is 0.4 inches across

This is an excellent specimen of Astronium truncatum, a tropical flower, from the Green River Formation of Utah. Due to their delicate nature, flowers are very rare in the fossil record. This flower exhibits very fine detail. All five petals of the flower are wonderfully displayed. The natural, dark brown color of the fossil contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The flower is well positioned on the large plate of shale. This is an extremely well-preserved example of a rare and delicate fossil from the Eocene.
