Pretty Sycamore Leaf With All Five Lobes
Stock Number  FPCOL16

Name:   Platanus wyomingensis
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size:  Leaf is 3.3 inches long including petiole

This is a very nice sycamore leaf, Platanus wyomingensis, from the Eocene of Colorado. This leaf has all five lobes beautifully displayed. The serrated margins of the leaf are clearly defined, and the venation of the leaf is easily seen. The leaf still has the long petiole tightly attached. The natural color of the leaf is quite striking. The dark brown leaf contrasts wonderfully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is extremely well centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very attractive specimen of a sycamore leaf from the Green River Formation of Colorado.
