Name:
Unidentified Leaf
Age: Eocene
Formation: Clay Deposits
Location: Puryear, Tennessee
Size: Leaf is 3.1 inches long including petiole
Here is a very nice fossil leaf from an unusual location. This leaf is from the Eocene of Tennessee. We recently acquired this leaf from an old collection. Years ago, these leaves were found in the clay deposits of a brickyard in Tennessee. This lance-shaped leaf exhibits great detail. The slightly undulating margins of the leaf are nicely displayed and the venation is clearly defined. The pointed tip of the leaf is intact, and the petiole is still tightly attached. The brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the pinkish-tan matrix. This is a very nice fossil leaf from the Eocene clay deposits of Tennessee.
