Excellent Willow Leaf With Many Mosquitoes
Stock Number  FPCOL13

Name:   Salix cockerelli & Mosquitoes
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River
Location:  Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size:  Leaf is 3.5 inches long including petiole

Here is an excellent fossil leaf. This is Salix cockerelli, a willow, from the Eocene of Colorado. This lanceolate leaf exhibits wonderful detail. The serrated margins are easily seen and the attenuate tip is intact. The venation of the leaf is quite evident and the petiole is still tightly attached. The leaf has very nice color and contrast and is aesthetically centered on the rectangular plate of shale that contains many fossil mosquitoes. This is an interesting association of a fossil willow leaf with insects from the Eocene.
