Here is a very unique plate of fossil plants. These are Glossopteris browniana leaves from the Permian of Australia. Glossopteris was a tree of substantial size and had a trunk reaching up to 16'' in diameter. Fossils from this tree are an important indicator of the theory of continental drift. This giant seed fern had very thick leaves. Each leaf had a sturdy midrib with a network of veins. There are several leaves present on this plate and they exhibit wonderful detail - the venation is just outstanding. The gorgeous color of the fossil plants is totally natural. The orangish-red leaves contrast beautifully with the pinkish-tan matrix. They are well positioned on the natural block of matrix. This is a very striking specimen of Glossopteris leaves from the Permian.
