Large, 3-Dimensional Sequoia Cone From Montana
Stock Number  FPCM05

Name:   Sequoia dakotensis
Age:  Cretaceous
Formation:  Hell Creek Formation
Location:  Montana
Size:  Cone is almost 1 inch long

Here is an extremely interesting plant fossil. This is a Sequoia dakotensis cone from the Cretaceous of Montana. Sequoia is typically found in well-drained lowland sites, usually terraces in river valleys. This cone has been extracted from the surrounding matrix and is totally 3-dimensional in preservation. The ovoid cone has spirally arranged, peltate scales. This is a very unique cone of a fossil Redwood from Montana.
