Here is an outstanding fossil plant specimen. This is an extremely unusual branch of Salix cockerelli, a willow, from the Eocene of Utah. Complete branches with many leaves attached, such as this specimen, are highly uncommon. The branching pattern of the plant is quite evident. The toothed margins of the leaves are very distinct and the venation is clearly defined. Several other partial leaves are also present on the plate. A wonderful specimen of Zelkova nervosa, keaki tree, is displayed on the reverse side of the plate (not pictured). The leaves have wonderful color and contrast. The willow branch is beautifully positioned on the large natural plate of shale. This is a very displayable fossil willow from the Green River Formation.
