Nice Sycamore Fruit From The Green River Shale
Stock Number  FPSU20

Name:   Platanus wyomingensis
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Fruit is 0.6 inches across

Here is an excellent example of a fruiting body from Platanus wyomingensis, a sycamore. This specimen is from the Green River Formation of Utah. This "sycamore ball" exhibits great detail - the "spike-like" seeds are beautifully displayed. The dark colored fossil contrasts nicely with the grayish-tan matrix. It is well positioned on the natural plate of shale. This is a wonderful specimen of a fruiting body from an Eocene sycamore tree.
