Size: Samara is 1.4 inches long
This is a spectacular unidentified samara from the Green River Formation of Utah. This airborne fruiting body is very dark in color and exhibits excellent venation of the extremely long "wings". One can almost imagine this fruit "helicoptoring" down in front of them. The fossil is well positioned on the natural plate of matrix that also contains an unidentified fossil insect. This is a beautiful example of a winged fruit from the Eocene.
