Large Annularia Specimen In Siderite Concretion
Stock Number  FPFMI18

Name:   Annularia sp.
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Braidwood Formation
Location:  Johnson County, Missouri
Size:  Concretion is 3 inches long

Here is a nice specimen of Annularia sp. from the Pennsylvanian of Missouri. Annularia represent the leaf whorls found at the nodes of the extinct Calamites plant. This fossil plant is well preserved in a large siderite concretion. Both halves of the concretion are present, so both part and counterpart of the fossil are intact. The central stem of the plant is visible and three distinct whorls of leaves are well defined. The dark brown fossil contrasts nicely with the lighter-colored matrix. This is a very pretty example of Annularia from the "Coal Age".
