Name:
Fossil Seed Fern Plate
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is about 14 inches diagonal!
This is a beautiful plate of plant fossils from the now-closed location at St. Clair, Pennsylvania. The distinct fern fossils are preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale - quite striking! The detail of the fossils is just amazing, and the individual fronds are nicely showcased and aesthetically spaced on the large plate of shale (well over a foot across!). There are also a few plant fossils preserved on the back side of the slab. This is a very collectible, large display plate of classic white fossil fern fronds from the Coal Regions of Pennsylvania.
