Name:
White Fern Frond Plate
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is 11.5 inches tall
This is a very cool plant fossil. It is a striking plate of fossil fern fronds from Pennsylvania. This specimen is replaced with the mineral Pyrophyllite, which gives the fossil its stunning white color. The long fern frond (a full SEVEN inches long!) has great detail and contrasts beautifully with the black matrix plate. And, yes, the white color is fully natural! The ferns are well displayed on the large plate of shale (almost a foot long!). This is a very displayable fossil fern fronds from the Coal Age of Pennsylvania.
