Fossil Seed Fern Fronds
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is 15 inches tall
This is a very large plate of plant fossils from the now-closed location at St. Clair, Pennsylvania. The long, distinct fossil fronds are preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. The detail of the fossils is quite nice, and the plants are well showcased on the large plate of shale. There are at lease two different types of ferns preserved on the plate. This is a very fine display example of a large plate of fossil fern fronds from the Coal Regions of Pennsylvania.
