Here is a rare fossil you don't see every day! It is an incredible multiple plate of Sphenophyllum sp. from the Carboniferous Age of Pennsylvania. This unusual fossil plant consisted of a slender stem bearing whorls of wedge-shaped leaves. This plant became extinct at the end of the Pennsylvanian. Amazingly, there are at least 16 different branches preserved on this plate! These displayable branches of Sphenophyllum ''flowers'' exhibit excellent detail and extremely nice, natural white coloration. The slender stems are easily seen, and the individual, spatulate leaves are clearly defined - what a display! And there even a few white ferns preserved on the plate. This is an extremely collectible example of this unique fossil plant.
