Two-Sided Fern Plate
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is 18.3 inches across
This is a beautiful plant fossil. It is a striking plate of fossil fern fronds from Pennsylvania. These ferns are replaced with the mineral Pyrophyllite, which gives the fossil its stunning white color. The detailed fern fronds display wonderfully and contrast beautifully with the large, black matrix plate (over a foot and a half across!). There are many distinct ferns preserved on the plate, and there are EVEN MORE fern fronds fossilized on the back side of the slab! This is a very large, displayable plate of fossil fern fronds from the Coal Age.
