Fossil Seed Ferns
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is 6.2 inches tall
This is a very displayable fossil seed fern plate from the famous location near St. Clair, Pennsylvania. There are two nice fronds on the plate - one is a small, exotic-looking fern, while the other is a large, distinct frond. The seed ferns are preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. The extremely detailed plant fossils are very well displayed on the large, natural plate of shale. This is a very nice pair of different Coal-Age plants from this classic site in Pennsylvania.
