Fossil Seed Fern Plate
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is 14.5 inches across
This is a beautiful plant fossil. It is a very large, striking plate of fossil fern fronds from Pennsylvania. The ferns are replaced with the mineral Pyrophyllite, which gives the fossil its stunning white color. The long fern fronds have great detail preserved and contrast beautifully with the black matrix plate. And there are also some ferns on the back side of the plate. This is a very large, displayable grouping of many fossil fern fronds from the Coal Age.
