EXTINCTIONS CHOICE- Ferns with Huge Seed Pod
Stock Number  FPFPA790
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Fossil Fern Plate and Rare Seed Pod
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Llewellyn Formation
Location:  Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size:  Plate is 13.6 inches across

This is a very rare plate of fossil plants from the classic St. Clair, Pennsylvania locality. The Seed Ferns are preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. The plate has many fronds intact, and some unusual types are represented. But the real gem on this plate is the HUGE Seed Pod preserved on the top right of the plate. Fossil seed ferns are easily found at this locality, but the seed fern pods are a very rare find. The fossils have nice natural color and contrast and are well showcased on the large plate of shale. And the back side of the plate is also has fern fossils represented. This is a very collectible assortment of Coal Age fossils, with a textbook seed pod being the focus of the piece.
