Very Cool Branch of Willow (Salix) Leaves
Stock Number  FPUSA702
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Willow (Salix) Leaves
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Plate is 7.9 inches across

This is a very unusual plant fossil. It is a Willow branch (Salix cockerelli) from the Green River Formation of Utah. It is very uncommon to find fossil leaves still attached to the main branch. This specimen has many nice leaves preserved. The leaves have very good detail and great color and contrast. The branch is well showcased on the plate of shale that also contains other leaves, even some on the back side of the plate. This is an excellent example of a branch with many Willow leaves articulated.
