Name:
Fossil Seed Fern Fronds
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is 10.2 inches across
This is a very detailed plant fossil. It is a striking plate of fossil fern fronds from Pennsylvania. This distinct specimen is naturally replaced with the mineral, Pyrophyllite, which gives the fossil its nice, white color. There are a few nice, large fronds preserved on the plate. The seed fern fronds have great detail and contrast well with the natural, black matrix slab. The back side of the plate is also covered with fern fossils. This is a very displayable grouping of fossil fern fronds from the Coal Age.
