Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is 3.7 inches long
Here is a very distinct fossil leaf. This is a nice Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Colorado. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen, and the slightly serrrated margins are exhibited in wonderful fashion. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a long petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the large plate of shale. This is an affordable example of a classic Sycamore leaf from the Green River Formation.
