Name:
Fossil Seed Fern Frond
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is 10.3 inches across
This is a very nice fossil fern frond from the classic location near St. Clair, Pennsylvania. The fossil is preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. The detail of this fossil is quite nice, and the large fern frond (almost six inches long!) is beautifully displayed on the large, natural plate of shale. There are also other ferns preserved on the the plate. This is a very cool example of a large, colorful fossil fern frond from the Coal Regions of Pennsylvania.
