Rare Plate of Fern Fronds from a Lost Locality
Stock Number  FPFPA778
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Fossil Fern Fronds
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Location:  Coal Valley, Schuylkill Co., PA
Size:  Plate is 5.75 inches diagonal

This is a very detailed plant fossil. It is a striking plate of fossil fern fronds from Pennsylvania. This specimen was collected in the 1970's by one collector, who then died with the locality info and the only lot of this material ever found in his collection. Many collectors have tried to rediscover this locality, but to no avail. The reason this material is coveted by collectors is the color/contrast of the fossils, and the completeness of the fronds. At most sites, only frondlets are found - but as you see here, parts of full fronds are preserved. The large frond has great detail, and there is also a rare Annularia whorl preserved on the plate! This is a very collectible fern fossil from the lost site at "Coal Valley, Schuylkill Co., PA".
