This is a wonderful fossil leaf. It is a cool Zelkova nervosa (Keaki Tree) leaf from the Green River Formation of Utah. This lance-shaped leaf is complete and exhibits wonderful detail. The serrated margins of the leaf are beautifully displayed, and the venation is just spectacular. The short petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The fossil leaf has great color and contrast and is well showcased on the natural plate of shale that also contains another leaf. This is a very fine example of a Zelkova leaf from the Eocene.
