This is a beautiful plant fossil. It is a striking plate of fossil fern fronds from Pennsylvania. This specimen is replaced with the mineral Pyrophyllite, which gives the fossil its stunning white color. The ferns have great detail and contrast beautifully with the black matrix plate. The many distinct fronds are easily seen on the plate, which is quite interesting. And there are even nice plant fossils on the back side of the plate. This is a very cool grouping of displayable fossil plants from the Coal Age.
