EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Large Fossil Fern Frond
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Llewellyn Formation
Location:  Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size:  Frond is 6.5 inches long!

This is a wonderful fossil plant from the now-closed location near St. Clair, Pennsylvania. The fossil fern frond is preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. The detail of this fossil is very nice, and the frond is quite large - a full six and a half inches long! There are also some Sphenophyllum "flowers" preserved on the plate. This is a very collectible example of a large fossil fern frond from the Coal Regions of Pennsylvania.
