Here is a very interesting plate of Coal Age plants. These are Sphenophyllum sp. from the Pennsylvanian of Pennsylvania. This unusual fossil plant consisted of a slender stem bearing whorls of wedge-shaped leaves. This plant became extinct at the end of the Pennsylvanian. This plate of Sphenophyllum ''flowers'' exhibits excellent detail. There are many, MANY examples present on this plate. The slender stems are easily seen, and the individual, spatulate leaves are clearly defined. These fossils have a distinct, natural white coloration. And the back side of the plate has very nice fern fronds preserved. This is a very collectible multiple example of these unique fossil plants.
