EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Two-Sided Fern Plate
Stock Number  FPFPA752
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Fern Plate
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Llewellyn Formation
Location:  Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size:  Plate is 14.5 inches across

This is a beautiful plant fossil. It is a striking plate of fossil fern fronds from Pennsylvania. These ferns are replaced with the mineral Pyrophyllite, which gives the fossil its stunning white color. The detailed fern fronds display wonderfully and contrast beautifully with the black matrix plate. There are many, MANY ferns preserved on the plate, along with a rare seed pod (a white oval in the middle of the plate). And there are also many fern fronds and Sphenophyllum fossilized on the back side of the plate. This is a very large, displayable slab of fossil fern fronds from the Coal Age.
