Fossil Seed Fern Plate
Age: Pennsylvanian

Location: Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is 5.8 inches tall
This is a cool plate of fossil plants. It is a striking slab of fossil fern fronds from Pennsylvania. This specimen is replaced with the mineral Pyrophyllite, which gives the fossil its stunning white color. The ferns have great detail and contrast beautifully with the black matrix plate. There are at least two different types of ferns preserved on the plate, which is quite interesting. And there are even ferns on the back side of the plate. This is a very nice grouping of displayable fossil plants from the Coal Age.
