EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Colorful Araucaria Cone
Stock Number  FPCON63
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Araucaria mirabilis Cone
Age:  Jurassic
Formation:  Petrified Forest
Location:  Cerro Cuadrado, Patagonia, Argentina
Size:  Cone is about 2.5 inches long

Here is a beautiful Araucaria mirabilis cone from the Jurassic of Patagonia. Araucaria is closely related to the modern-day monkey-puzzle tree. The cone has been cut in half and both halves have been highly polished. The fossil has been totally replaced by silica, making the colors all that more striking. The interior of the cone is just exquisite - the individual seeds are quite distinct, and the stem attachment point is easily seen. The exterior of the cone also displays very good scale detail. This is a gorgeous fossil cone with seeds intact from the Araucaria tree of South America.

Note: Argentina has now banned the export of all fossils. We will strictly abide by and enforce this law - we will not acquire new fossils from Argentina. However, this fossil was collected and exported prior to this law, and can be sold legally.
