Name:
Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is over 5 inches long!
Here is a fabulous fossil leaf. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Utah. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen, and the slightly-serrrated margins are exhibited in wonderful fashion. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a LONG petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the large, natural-edged plate of shale. This is a very nice example of a very large Sycamore leaf from the Green River Formation.
