Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is 4.85 inches across
Here is a wonderful fossil leaf. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Colorado. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen - the lobe tips are extremely pointed! The slightly serrrated margins are exhibited in wonderful fashion, the venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the large plate of shale. This is a great example of a detailed Sycamore leaf from the Green River Formation.
