EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Fossil Seed Fern Plate
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Llewellyn Formation
Location:  Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size:  Plate is 15.4 inches across

This is a very large, displayable fossil seed fern plate from the famous location at St. Clair, Pennsylvania. This specimen was recently acquired from the Richard Busch Collection. Busch was the Preparator/Asst. Curator at the North Museum in Lancaster, PA from 1965-1992. There are many nice, detailed fronds preserved on the plate. The seed ferns are preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. There are many different types of fossil ferns and even rare Sphenophyllum "flowers" present on the plate. This is a very collectible slab of Coal-Age plants from this classic site.
