Stock Number  FPFPA729
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Fossil Seed Fern Plate
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Llewellyn Formation
Location:  Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size:  Plate is 12 inches across

This is a large plate of plant fossils from the now-closed location at St. Clair, Pennsylvania. The fossils are preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. The detail of the fossils is quite nice, and the plants are nicely showcased on the large plate of shale. Thare are different types of ferns preserved, as well as many rare Sphenophyllum "flowers". The back side of the plate is also covered with ferns. This is a very fine example of a large plate of fossil fern fronds from the Coal Regions of Pennsylvania.
