Name:
Cyclocarya brownii
Age: Paleocene
Formation: Sentinnel Butte Formation
Location: Almont, North Dakota
Size: Fruit is 1.1 inches across
Here is a very interesting plant specimen from the Paleocene of North Dakota. The plate contains a fabulous fruiting body of Cyclocarya brownii. The Juglandaceous fruiting body displays fine detail. The samara is very 3-dimensional in the center with the "wings" preserved as white radiating lines. The fossil has very good color and contrast and is well centered on the matrix plate. This is a very nice specimen of this strange, airborne fruit from the Paleocene.
