Multiple Fossil Fern Plate
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is 11.7 inches across
This is a beautiful plant fossil. It is a striking plate of fossil fern fronds from Pennsylvania. This specimen is replaced with the mineral Pyrophyllite, which gives the fossil its stunning white color. The ferns have great detail and contrast beautifully with the black matrix plate. The long fronds are easily seen on the large plate (almost ONE FOOT ACROSS!). And there are even nice fronds on the back side of the plate. This is a very cool grouping of displayable fossil plants from the Coal Age.
