Name:
Fossil Fern Fronds
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is 8.8 inches tall
This is a fabulous fossil plant from the now-closed location near St. Clair, Pennsylvania. The fossil fern fronds are preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. The detail of the fossil is quite nice, and the main frond is quite large - five half inches long! But the cool feature of this frond is that it is bifurcated - usually, the tips of these fern fronds come to a point! This is a very collectible example of large, bifurcated fossil fern frond from the Coal Regions of Pennsylvania.
