Here is a classic fossil leaf from a classic locailty. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Colorado. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen, and the sharply serrrated margins are exhibited in wonderful fashion. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a long, complete petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The large leaf also shows evidence of insect damage to the tip of the middle lobe, which is quite unusual. This is a very fine bug-eaten example of an extinct Sycamore leaf from Colorado.
