Name:
Fossil Fern Fronds
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is almost 10 inches across
This is a fabulous fossil plant from the now-closed location near St. Clair, Pennsylvania. The fossil fern frond is preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. The detail of this fossil is quite nice, and the frond is quite large with many frondlets. And there are also rare Sphenophyllum flower clusters preserved on the plate! This is a very collectible example of a large fossil fern frond and Sphenophyllum from the Coal Regions of Pennsylvania
