Beautiful, Large Poplar Leaf with Long Petiole
Stock Number  FPUPO35
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Populus wilmattae (Poplar Leaf)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 5.3 inches long

This is an extremely complete fossil leaf. It is a beautiful leaf of Populus wilmattae, a Poplar, from the Green River Formation of Utah. This heart-shaped leaf has a somewhat rounded base and a VERY LONG acuminate apex which is unusually intact. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct and easily seen under magnification. The VERY LONG petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The fossil has excellent natural color and contrast and is beautifully showcased on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very displayable specimen of a Poplar leaf from the Eocene.
