Name:
Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is 1.85 inches tall
Here is a cool fossil leaf. This is a slightly bug-eaten Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Colorado. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen, and the serrrated margins are exhibited in wonderful fashion. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a long petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the natural plate of shale. This is an affordable example of a serrated Sycamore leaf from the Green River Formation.
