Name:
Fossil Fern Frond
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is 7.8 inches across
This is a fabulous fossil plant from the now-closed location near St. Clair, Pennsylvania. The fossil fern frond is preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. The detail of this fossil is quite nice, and the frond is quite large and wide. And there are also many fronds on the back side of the plate! This is a very collectible example of large fossil fern frond from the Coal Regions of Pennsylvania.
