This is a wonderful plant fossil. It is a beautiful fossil Fern plate from Johnson County, Missouri. This specimen is from the same locality as the fern concretions. The fern frond displays many small frondlets, which is very unusual. The striking dark brown coloration is fully natural, and the minute detail is exquisite. The uncommon fern is beautifully showcased on the unbroken plate of shale. This is a very distinct plant fossil from this Mazon Creek-like locality.
