Salix cockerelli (Willow Leaf)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size: Leaf is 2.7 inches long
Here is a very nice specimen of Salix cockerelli, a Willow, from the Eocene of Colorado. The specimen is intact and nicely detailed. The lanceolate leaf displays the finely toothed margins extremely well, with the short petiole still displayed. The fossil has excllent color and contrast and is well showcased on the semi-rectangular plate of matrix. This is one of the better Willow leaves that we have seen from Colorado.
