Name:
Leguminosites lesquereuxi Leaf
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is 2.1 inches long
This is a very distinct specimen of Leguminosites lesquereuxiana from the Green River Formation of Utah. This type of leaf has slightly undulated margins with very weak venation. This species is unusual in that the leaf sometimes has an emarginate, or indented, apex. A very short petiole is still attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. The fossil is well centered on the rectangular plate of shale And the bug damage on the right side is easily seen. This is a very fine specimen of a fossil legume leaf with distinct insect damage.
