This is a top quality fossil leaf. It is a beautiful leaf of Populus wilmattae, a Poplar, from the Green River Formation of Utah. This complete heart-shaped leaf has a somewhat rounded base and a very long acuminate apex which is unusually intact to the tiny, tiny tip. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct and easily seen under magnification. A very long petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The fossil has excellent natural color and contrast and is beautifully showcased on the large, squared plate of shale. This is a very collectible specimen of a poplar leaf from the Eocene.
