Due to their delicate nature, flowers are very rare in the fossil record. This is a stunning specimen of a five-petaled tropical flower from the Eocene of Colorado. This fossil flower exhibits wonderful detail - all five of the petals are beautifully displayed. The fossil has great color and contrast and is well showcased on the natural plate of shale that also contains many tiny insects. This is an excellent example of a rare and delicate fossil flower and insects.
