This is a beautiful plant fossil. It is a striking plate of fossil fern fronds from Pennsylvania. This specimen is replaced with the mineral Pyrophyllite, which gives the fossil its stunning white color. The ferns have great detail and contrast beautifully with the black matrix plate. Two long fronds criss-cross on the plate, which is quite interesting. And there are even some rare Sphenophyllum branches in the center of the plate. This is a very cool grouping of displayable fossil plants from the Coal Age.
