Very Large Fern Frond from a Lost Locality
Stock Number  FPFPA93
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Fossil Fern Frond
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Location:  Coal Valley, Schuylkill Co., PA
Size:  Frond is 6.5 inches across

This is a very detailed plant fossil. It is a striking fossil fern frond from Pennsylvania. This specimen was collected in the 1970's by one collector, who then died with the locality info and the only lot of this material ever found in his collection. Many collectors have tried to rediscover this locality, but to no avail. The reason this material is coveted by collectors is the color/contrast of the fossils, and the completeness of the fronds. At most sites, only frondlets are found - but as you see here, part of a full frond is preserved. The large frond has great detail and contrasts beautifully with the light-purplish matrix plate. This is a very collectible fern fossil from the lost site at "Coal Valley, Schuylkill Co., PA".
