Name:
Lygodium kaulfussii Leaf
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is 2.7 inches across
Here is an exceptional example of a Lygodium kaulfussii (Climbing Fern) leaf from the Green River Formation of Utah. Living representatives of this plant are true climbers. This distinctly lobed leaf has smooth margins and extremely fine venation, which is easily seen on this specimen. The natural coloration of the fossil is just outstanding, and the large leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The leaf is wonderfully showcased on the natural plate of shale, with the two center lobes being distinctly bug-eaten. This is a very displayable Lygodium leaf from the Eocene of Utah.
